Audio Tour of the Zicker Mountains

Locals and visitors can also take a tour of the Zicker Berge Nature Reserve in the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve using an audio guide.

Using a smartphone, visitors can access additional information at a total of 14 different stations along the designated hiking trails about the nature reserve—including its unique animal and plant species—as well as the region’s settlement history and current land use. The audio guide also provides guidance on how visitors should behave to help preserve the area’s valuable natural environment and landscape. The Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve Office developed the audio guide in cooperation with the Mönchgut Tourist Board and other local stakeholders, and implemented it in collaboration with Kathleen Aust as part of the Interreg project “CEETO – Central Europe Eco-Tourism: Tools for Nature Protection.” This service is designed to guide visitors through the Zicker Berge Nature Reserve. The audio tour in the Zicker Mountains near Gager offers locals and visitors a unique way to explore the nature reserve within the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. At a total of 14 stations along the designated hiking trails, an audio guide via smartphone provides in-depth information—about rare animal and plant species, the region’s settlement history, and current land use in this unique part of the Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Nature Conservation and Visitor Management in the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve

The Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve Office developed the audio guide in collaboration with the Mönchgut Tourist Board and other local stakeholders. The project was implemented as part of the European Interreg project “CEETO – Central Europe Eco-Tourism: tools for nature protection.” The guide also informs visitors about how to behave appropriately within the protected area in order to permanently preserve the valuable nature and landscape of the Mönchgut Peninsula.
