Mägdebrunnen Stralsund - bronze figures at a historic location
At the transition from Schillstraße to Fährstraße, not far from Stralsund's harbor, the Mägdebrunnen has stood since 2003 - a striking fountain made of a massive granite block, crowned by three bronze figures. The sculptor Günter Kaden created the work as part of an urban planning competition, which he won. It takes up an everyday theme of the city's history: the fetching of water by the maidservants of the surrounding patrician houses.
Three maidservants, one well - a story from old StralsundFor centuries, a well "am Schilde" supplied the surrounding population with water at this location. It was the task of the maidservants to fetch the water and carry it to the households. Günter Kaden's bronze figures show three women fetching water - and whispering to each other. This lively scene still invites various interpretations today and makes the maidservants' fountain one of the quiet but remarkable works of art in Stralsund's cityscape.

This public toilet is operated by staff present. If you are on the Alter Markt, you will find the toilet on the left-hand side of the town hall. To reach it, go down a flight of stairs. You will find a disabled-accessible entrance in the foyer of the town hall Monday to Friday (not on public holidays).
