Bicycle and Passenger Ferry in Stolpe on the Peene – Crossing in the Nature Park

The bicycle and passenger ferry in Stolpe on the Peene is the only direct connection between the Hanseatic City of Anklam and Jarmen on this stretch of the river. During the summer months, it quickly transports cyclists and pedestrians from the pier in Stolpe to the pier across the river at Stolpmühl. To cross, you call the ferryman in the traditional way with a bell—a little adventure in itself.

The ferry is located in the heart of the Peenetal River Landscape Nature Park, one of the largest contiguous lowland moor areas in Central and Western Europe. Due to the nature of the terrain, it’s not possible to cycle directly along the banks of the Peene here, but a bike path runs from Anklam to Grüttow along the Peene. Additional sections of the route are in the planning stages. If you continue inland after the crossing, you’ll reach the village of Quilow via a bumpy, old access road.
