The German Amber Museum in Ribnitz-Damgarten – Millions of Years of History

Anyone traveling along the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast will sooner or later come across the “gold of the sea”: amber. At the German Amber Museum in Ribnitz-Damgarten, located at the entrance to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, you can experience the fascinating history of this fossilized resin up close. Millions-of-years-old beetles, spiders, and other insects, trapped in amber-colored resin, tell of a long-gone world—true jewels from the age of the dinosaurs.

Amber Polishing, Museum Scavenger Hunt, and KinderBernsteinLand

The museum offers much more than traditional exhibition halls. In the demonstration workshop, visitors can try their hand at amber grinding and create a personal souvenir from Baltic Sea gold. A museum scavenger hunt makes the tour especially exciting for children, and playful discoveries await the youngest guests in KinderBernsteinLand. This makes a visit an excellent destination for families—regardless of the weather.

Museum bakery Müller - Klockenhagen

Museum bakery Müller - Klockenhagen

Ribnitz-Damgarten

Tradition that you can taste! An absolute must when visiting the Klockenhagen open-air museum. Real craftsmanship is still practiced in the historic bakery: here the bread comes fresh from the old German stone oven. The aroma of oven-warm stone-baked bread and traditional sheet cakes wafts through the entire village ensemble. Highlight: from May to October, various types of Klockenhäger bread are baked in the vaulted oven. The bakery is open seasonally (like the open-air museum) from Tuesday to Sunday. Particularly practical: you can also reach it directly from the outside on the corner of Stützpunkt 3a, independently of the museum visit. April, May, June, September, October: 08:00 to 16:00 July and August: 08:00 to 17:00.
