If you want to experience how decorative candles are made, the weaving and candle barn in Groß Laasch is just the place for you.

Here, Christine Gabler makes pretty light and warmth dispensers by hand, which create a cozy atmosphere not only in the cold season. In the converted barn of a typical Mecklenburg farmhouse, she produces candles in a wide variety of colors and shapes. Christine Gabler mainly uses high-quality palm oil-based stearin as a material, which ensures that the candles burn two to three times longer than conventional kerosene candles and also produce significantly less soot. Around 40 different shapes and 18 colors can be combined with each other, so that in the end each candle is unique. Of particular interest to visitors is the Candle Barn's offer to get hands-on. In the experience workshop, young and old candle makers are introduced to the art of candle casting and can create a pretty gift or personal souvenir after just 15 minutes of expert instruction. Vests, jackets, coats, scarves, belts and curtains are also made in the weaving and candle barn using traditional handicraft techniques. In the show workshop, visitors learn about the old craft and find out lots of interesting facts about the material properties of hand-spun wool, which is even said to have a healing effect.
