Göldenitz Country School Museum

Göldenitz · 54.0060° N, 12.2960° E
Göldenitz Country School Museum

The Göldenitz Country School Museum is an originally preserved school from 1880 and is now the leading school museum in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Within its impressive walls, you can experience school history in the light of past centuries and a "detention lesson" (by appointment) as in great-grandfather's day. The typical one-class school from around 1880 in what was then Mecklenburg served its purpose until 1963 and has housed the Göldenitz country school museum with authentic teacher's apartment ("Gute Stube", children's room, kitchen, dining room) the original classroom and the typical outdoor facilities of the time. In addition to the school area, the preserved cultural heritage also includes the areas of rural life, family, work and leisure. A wide range of exhibitions and collections (from the development of Protestant religious education, to the rural school in the 19th century, to the history of schools under National Socialism and the GDR), inform you about the importance of education for people and the influence of the elites and the state. The "detention" - a historical lesson - and offers on traditional crafts, such as "baking day", "blacksmithing" and "washing day" as well as the media shows "The Talking Classroom" and "Life with the School" bring history to life at first hand. We will be happy to put together a program (including guided tours, projects, detention, media shows and coffee breaks) for group trips, school enrolment parties, children's birthdays, class reunions and family and company celebrations. We are open for you*: April Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 10.00 - 16.00 Tuesday, Friday 10.00 - 14.00 May - September Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 10.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. Tuesday, Friday 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. October - December 19 Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. Tuesday, Friday 10.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m. * and by appointment

Göldenitz Rural School Museum - the leading school museum in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The Göldenitz Country School Museum preserves one of the most impressive school history sites in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The originally preserved village school from 1880 served its original purpose until 1963 and has housed an authentic museum since 1976, bringing the history of education over several centuries to life. Anyone planning a trip inland between a stay at the Baltic Sea - for example in Rostock, Wismar or Fischland-Darß-Zingst - will find a worthwhile stopover here.

Original classroom and authentic teacher's apartment from the 19th century

The museum displays the original classroom of a typical Mecklenburg one-class school as well as the fully preserved teacher's apartment with parlor, children's room, kitchen and pantry. The ensemble is complemented by historical outdoor facilities. A variety of exhibitions shed light on the development of Protestant religious education, the rural school in the 19th century and school history under National Socialism and in the GDR.

Experience historical lessons and traditional crafts

The so-called "detention" is particularly popular - a historical lesson that is offered by appointment and takes visitors back to the school world of previous generations. There are also offers on traditional crafts such as baking day, blacksmithing and washing day as well as media shows. An individual program can be put together for groups, school classes, children's birthdays, school enrolment parties and company celebrations.
