With the ICE to the island of Rügen The former Gingster Straße was renamed "Bahnhofstraße" after the construction of Bergen railroad station.
It is the central axis between the city center and the train station as well as the industrial area behind it on Gingster Chaussee. It is characterized by the recessed, villa-like buildings from the early 20th century and the smaller commercial enterprises and retail establishments located in the lower part of the street. It is recorded that the first train arrived at Bergen auf Rügen station at 14:40 on July 1, 1883. The Stralsund - Bergen line was thus opened. The station building is depicted on a postcard from before 1900. It is a listed building and was completely renovated in 2004 at a cost of around 9 million euros.

The Bergen auf Rügen railroad station is not only an important transport hub in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but also a historic building with a long history. On July 1, 1883 at 2:40 pm, the first train pulled into the station, opening the line between Stralsund and Bergen auf Rügen. Villa-like buildings from the early 20th century characterize the cityscape along the street.
Travel to Bergen on Rügen by train
Bergen auf Rügen can be reached directly by train. The route from Stralsund takes you comfortably to the island's capital - today also by ICE train. Other destinations on Rügen such as Binz, Sassnitz and Putbus are easy to reach from Bergen. If you are traveling by car, take the B96 via the Rügendamm from Stralsund.
