The Barth Bible

Duke Bogislaw XIII was the one who commissioned the printing of this Bible. Around 500 copies were printed and the Bible itself is a real work of art with beautiful woodcuts. The Barth Bible - A Middle Low German printed work from 1588
The Barth Bible is one of the most remarkable historical testimonies of the Baltic Sea region. In 1588, Duke Bogislaw XIII had this extraordinary Bible printed in Barth - written in Middle Low German, the language spoken in the region at the time. Around 500 copies were produced at the time, each a work of art in its own right: the elaborate woodcuts make the Barth Bible not only a religious document, but also an impressive testimony to the art of early modern book printing.
