The Bad Kleinen egg tunnel is a pedestrian tunnel under the railroad track bed.
A tubular tunnel was built in 1896 to provide access from the water spa in Bad Kleinen, which opened in 1895, to Lake Schwerin. It became popularly known as the 'egg tunnel'. According to legend, encounters in the egg tunnel guarantee happy marriages. This is said to be ensured by the echo men who live in the cracks and niches of the tunnel. Today you have a wonderful view of Lake Schwerin and the island of Liebs if you come from the direction of Bad Kleinen.

The egg tunnel in Bad Kleinen is an unusual architectural monument in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The tubular pedestrian tunnel was built in 1896 to provide guests of the water spa, which had opened a year earlier, with easy access to Lake Schwerin - underneath the railroad track bed. It was soon given the charming name "Egg Tunnel", which is still in use today.
Echo men and the legend of happy marriages
There is a well-known local legend surrounding the tunnel: Anyone who meets another person in the egg tunnel is said to be granted a happy marriage. The so-called echo males are said to be responsible for this - small creatures that supposedly live in the cracks and niches of the tunnel. The legend makes the tunnel a popular excursion destination, which can be wonderfully combined with a walk along the lakeshore.
