Tribsees mill gate

The mill gate in Tribsees is one of two town gates that have been preserved to this day. The Mill Gate, also known as the Stralsund Gate, in Tribsees is one of the two remaining gates of the fortifications that surrounded the town. Built in the 13th century, the town gate was rebuilt after a major fire (1702) with some structural changes. The gate owes its name to a watermill that was located in the immediate vicinity until the 19th century.

The town hall in Tribsees dates back to 1884. Built in 1884, the town hall is the seat of the mayor and the municipal administration in Tribsees. The foundation stone was ceremoniously laid on March 19, 1884. A copper casket contained documents and other additions from the time, such as daily newspapers and lists of staff appointments to the town authorities. These were walled into the foundation stone under the right-hand corner pillar.
St. Thomas City Church in Tribsee

A religious gem is St. Thomas Church in Tribsees, which was built around 1320 in the Gothic style and today dominates the townscape. Fires and various religious movements have shaped both its interior and exterior. This was later followed by a Neo-Gothic renovation. The most valuable feature of the interior is the carved Mühlen altar from the second quarter of the 15th century. A religious gem is St. Thomas Church in Tribsees, which was built around 1320 in the Gothic style and today dominates the townscape. Fires and various religious movements shaped both its interior and exterior. A Neo-Gothic renovation followed later. In 1702, the church burned down. Only the carved mill altar, a sculptural representation of a Eucharistic mill from the second quarter of the 15th century, could be saved. Today, it is the most valuable interior feature. The mill was a very popular motif among the Cistercians, who exercised patronage over this church from the Neuenkamp Monastery. When open, the altar measures 5.50 meters in width and 2.12 meters in height. In addition to this unique piece, St. Thomas Church houses the Lübeck pulpit from 1577, a Baroque crucifixion group from 1710, and a Buchholz organ from 1831, which was restored in 1996. Visitors may climb the church tower after registering at the parish office.
