Timmendorf Lighthouse
● Insel Poel / OT Timmendorf
The Timmendorf Lighthouse is one of the landmarks of the island of Poel and one of the oldest 19th-century lighthouses still in operation.
Visitors arriving from the sea first see the Timmendorf Lighthouse. The beacon was first put into operation in 1871 and raised to its current height (21 m) in 1931. As a navigational aid at the entrance to the seaport of the Hanseatic city of Wismar, the lighthouse remains of great importance today for the increasing maritime traffic. A second, smaller “lighthouse” stands west of Gollwitz, in the north of the island of Poel.
