Museum for everyday culture of the Griesen region

Museum for everyday culture of the Griesen region

Hagenow

Hagenow is the gateway to the Griesen region in the southwest of Mecklenburg. Founded in 1974, the museum is dedicated to everyday life in the countryside and in the town - from the Stone Age to the more recent past. The Museum of Everyday Culture of the Griesen Gegend has an extensive collection and presents its modern permanent exhibition in a farmhouse from 1828 as well as in other historical outbuildings. In addition to the development of the natural and cultural area "Griese Gegend" and the history of the town of Hagenow, the focus here is on exciting aspects of living and working, traditional crafts as well as the development of technology and industrialization. There is much to discover: Archaeological finds such as the "Hagenow princely tombs", a steam engine from 1902, the "Fischer & Havemann" machine factory from the 1920s and an employee's apartment from around 1940. A historic restaurant and a cobbler's workshop as well as exhibitions on forest glass and railroad history complete the newly designed permanent exhibition at this research and educational facility. Opening hours and current information Tue,Thu 9 -12.00 and 14 - 17.00, Sun 14 -17.00
