Dambeck Church Ruins

The Dambeck church ruin (near Röbel/Müritz) was built around 1180 as an early Christian fortified church made entirely of granite stones. It is the oldest in southern Mecklenburg.
The Förderverein Kirchenruine Dambeck e.V. (Friends of the Dambeck Church Ruins) was founded in 2014 and has raised a total of €364,000 over the past 10 years. These funds come from the EU (LEADER), the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Nordkirche, the German Foundation for Monument Protection, and others.
Thanks to numerous donations (Müritzsparkasse, N. Backhaus Schloss Leizen, Agrar-GmbH Minzow, etc.) to contribute an additional 27,500 €.
This enabled the church ruins to be renovated, secured, and restored to a dignified condition in three construction phases. Visitors can now safely enter the site and view this truly unique building.
On June 23, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., the completion of the construction work will be celebrated with an open-air concert in the ruins of the nave, followed by refreshments. This was made possible once again by the support of the MV Volunteer Foundation.
During events, the choir loft—which has been re-roofed—is always open to visitors, who are given a brief guided tour there. The Massow parish’s traditional annual Pentecost Sunday service takes place there. In addition, two baptismal services have already been held there.
