Harbor tomcat

Welcome to Schlling's fish house.

Here (almost) everything revolves around the catch of the Hiddensee cutter fishermen. The small fish house is located in front of the larger restaurant. This is where the delicious fish sandwiches are freshly filled with unique recipes and golden fish & chips are baked. Homemade from Baltic cod. The sunny terrace offers a direct view of the hustle and bustle of the harbor. The owner is Mathias Schilling, who has already made a name for himself in Schaprode on Rügen with Schillings Gasthof and Schillings Fischhaus and as a cattle farmer on the family-owned island of Öhe.

Hafenkater in Vitte - fish cuisine right on the Hiddensee harbor

The Fischhaus Hafenkater is located in the middle of the harbor of Vitte on the car-free Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee. Visitors can experience the original character of the island at first hand: the small fish house is located in front of the larger restaurant and is dedicated to Hiddensee cutter fishing. The establishment is run by Mathias Schilling, who is already well-known in the region with Schillings Gasthof and Schillings Fischhaus in Schaprode on Rügen and as a cattle farmer on the family island of Öhe.

Fish rolls & fish and chips from Baltic cod

The fish house serves fresh fish rolls made to its own recipes - a specialty that is popular all along the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. They also serve golden yellow fish & chips, homemade from Baltic cod. The sunny terrace invites you to watch the hustle and bustle of Vitte's harbor while you eat and enjoy the maritime atmosphere that sets Hiddensee apart from other islands such as Rügen or Usedom.

Hiddensee - the quiet neighbor of Rügen

Hiddensee is located to the west of Rügen and can only be reached by ferry - from Stralsund, Schaprode on Rügen or Neuendorf. Cars are not permitted on the island, which is why bicycles and horse-drawn carts are the typical means of transportation. Those arriving from the mainland can reach the nearest train station in Stralsund, from where there are regular ferries to Hiddensee. The island is a nature reserve and part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park.
