Semper Forest Park
Semper Forest Park in Lietzow - history and nature on Rügen
The Semper Forest Park in Lietzow is one of the most remarkable gardens in the Baltic Sea region. It was created around 1920 as part of the construction of Semper Castle and covers around 38 hectares in the middle of the Semper Heath. From 2000 to 2003, the Ostrügen Landscape Conservation Association reconstructed the park according to the historical model - it was the official outdoor location for the 2003 International Garden Show in Rostock.
Süntel beech trees and cascading ponds in the witches' forest
A particular highlight of the park are the so-called Süntel beech trees - a rare mutation of the copper beech with bizarre, twisted growth. Because of their peculiar shape, they are also popularly known as "witch beeches". The nature experience is complemented by a rhododendron avenue, oaks up to 100 years old and picturesque cascading ponds.
High bank trail with a view of the Jasmund Bodden
A high bank path leads through the park and offers wonderful views of the Great Jasmund Bodden - one of the characteristic waters of the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The path invites you to take a peaceful stroll through old trees and varied terrain.
