Friedrichsmoor forest adventure trail - legendary Lewitz
"Legendary Lewitz" forest adventure trail in Friedrichsmoor
The "Legendary Lewitz" forest adventure trail in Friedrichsmoor leads through one of the most fascinating landscapes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Lewitz is the largest meadow landscape in Germany and has been the scene of sagas and legends for centuries: of white women in the misty fields, the nocturnal Wild Hunt and magnificent white stags in the oak forest. Many of these stories have a historical core and date back to the time of Slavic settlement or the Napoleonic Wars.
16 legend stations with sculptures, panels and radio plays
There are 16 stations along the trail, at which artists have erected specially designed statues. At each station, the associated legend can be read on a plaque or listened to as an audio play using a QR code. For children, there are discovery tasks that impart knowledge about the forest and nature in a fun way. The trail is available as a 4 km hiking trail and a 12 km cycle path - starting and finishing at the historic Friedrichsmoor hunting lodge.
Lewitz and Baltic Sea region - experience nature in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Lewitz is located in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and can be easily combined with a visit to the nearby Baltic Sea coast. Cities such as Wismar or Schwerin are within easy reach, and those with more time can also explore the coastal regions around Rostock, Fischland-Darß-Zingst or Stralsund. The forest adventure trail thus offers a natural contrast to the coastal landscape of the German Baltic Sea.
