Surfspot Altefähr
Surfspot Altefähr: windsurfing on the Strelasund with a special panorama
The Altefähr surf spot is located directly on the Strelasund, directly opposite the Hanseatic city of Stralsund in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. What makes this spot special: while surfing, you have the historic old town of Stralsund and the imposing Rügen Bridge directly in view - an ambience that is unparalleled on the German Baltic Sea coast. The spot is suitable for wind directions from south-east to west, with westerly winds blowing unhindered across the Bodden and providing the best conditions.
Wind conditions and water conditions in Altefähr
Due to the somewhat sheltered location of the spot, gusty winds can occur in certain wind directions. Outside the standing area, the waves can also get choppy - beginners should keep this in mind. The entrance to the water is via wooden piers at the water's edge; there is no classic sandy beach here. However, the spacious grassy area right on the shore offers plenty of space to set up your equipment.
Surfing school and facilities at the Altefähr spot
There is a surf school on site that offers courses and rental for sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. According to the beach regulations, kitesurfing is not permitted in Altefähr during the summer months - if you want to kitesurf, it is best to go to Thiessow on Rügen, where the surf school is also located. Parking facilities and a waste disposal station are available at the spot.
