City wall Pasewalk
Pasewalk town wall - a medieval heritage site on the Baltic Sea
The city wall of Pasewalk is one of the most impressive historical testimonies of the Baltic Sea region in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Anyone familiar with the medieval fortifications of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, the old town walls of Greifswald or the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Wismar will also find a living city history from the Middle Ages in Pasewalk. Large parts of the former town fortifications have been preserved to this day and invite you to take a stroll through centuries of history.
Towers, gates and weigh houses of the medieval town fortifications
The town wall of Pasewalk impresses with its well-preserved towers, gates and so-called Wiekhäuser - small buildings integrated into the wall that once performed guard and defense functions. The most striking building in the entire complex is the "Kiek in de Mark", a tower more than 20 meters high, which is considered the town's real landmark. Its name refers to the expansive view it once offered over the surrounding countryside.
Pasewalk as an excursion destination in the north of Mecklenburg-VorpommernPasewalk is located inland, not far from the Baltic coast of Western Pomerania, and is an excellent day trip from vacation destinations such as Usedom or Fischland-Darß-Zingst. The town wall is easy to explore on foot and is a worthwhile destination for history buffs and families who want to explore Mecklenburg-Vorpommern away from the well-known coastal beaches.
