Krakow am See City Library
The Krakow am See City Library is located in the city center at Am Schulplatz 2 in the Old School.
It offers its services to all residents, visitors, and vacationers. It is accessible to people with disabilities and currently has a collection of approximately 7,000 items. In addition to books (fiction, children’s and young adult literature, and nonfiction), the library also offers magazines, music, audio CDs, Tonies, Tip Toi pens, and DVDs for all age groups. Since 2021, the library has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Interlibrary Loan Network. You’ll find a selection of regional literature and Low German literature listed separately. The library offers a paid internet workstation. Free Wi-Fi is available via the “Alte Schule” hotspot. Use of the library is free for children and young people up to age 21, as well as for holders of a valid spa card. According to the bylaws, adults pay an annual usage fee of €10. The City Library works closely with the Nature Park School, local daycare centers, and the cultural association “Alte Synagoge” e.V. The library hosts storytime sessions, library tours, and author readings. Projects in which the library traditionally participates include: April 23: World Book Day; “FerienLeseLustMecklenburg-Vorpommern” in November; National Reading Aloud Day. Krakow am See Public Library – Culture in the Old School
The Krakow am See Public Library is a vibrant cultural institution in the heart of the small town on the lake of the same name—not far from the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast. Housed in the historic Old School, it is open to residents, day visitors, and vacationers alike. The collection comprises around 7,000 items: fiction, children’s and young adult literature, nonfiction, magazines, music and audio CDs, DVDs, as well as modern formats such as Tonies and Tiptoi pens. Of particular note is the collection of regional literature and Low German literature, which offers a wonderful introduction to the culture of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Digital Services and Terms for Vacationers
Since 2021, the library has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Onleihe network, allowing visitors to borrow digital media as well. Free Wi-Fi is available via the “Alte Schule” hotspot, and there is also a paid internet workstation. Children and young people up to age 21 can use the library for free—as can all guests with a valid visitor’s card. For adults, the annual fee is just 10 euros.
Events and regional partnerships in Krakow am See
The city library is firmly rooted in the cultural life of Krakow am See. It works closely with the Nature Park School, local daycare centers, and the cultural association “Alte Synagoge” e.V. Traditionally, the library participates in World Book Day (April 23), the summer reading project “FerienLeseLust Mecklenburg-Vorpommern,” and the nationwide Reading Aloud Day in November.
