The Hohe Holz is one of Teterow's three urban hiking areas. It is characterized by an extraordinary beech tree population. The "Hohe Holz" is characterized by a magnificent stand of beech trees. This is what makes the hiking area so special. The trees have been standing there for more than 100 years and have now grown to a height of around 40 meters. Remarkable: if beech shafts usually reach a length of 10 to 12 meters, the specimens in the "Hohe Holz" reach an impressive 15 to 20 meters. The seed of the trees has the quality label "special origin". Lake Hertha, a dreamy forest pond surrounded by water irises and woodruff, is steeped in legend. The beautiful Princess Hertha is said to live at the bottom of the lake. On St. John's Eve, she drives around the lake three times in a golden carriage pulled by four white swans. Afterwards, the carriage sinks back into the depths... The covered picnic area at Lake Hertha is the perfect place for a picnic. If you like, you can also enjoy nature from the bench by the lake. There is also a small educational tree trail in the area of the rest area. Traces of a long history of settlement can also be found in the "Hohe Holz". The stone cist grave here dates back to 3000-1800 BC. Hikers can enjoy a charming view over the town and the hills of the Teterow basin from the upper Hohlweg. The "Hohes Holz" restaurant invites you to stop for refreshments.

Lake Hertha, steeped in legend, and ancient beech forest

Lake Hertha itself is shrouded in legend: The beautiful Princess Hertha is said to live at its bottom. On St. John's Eve, she drives around the lake three times in a golden carriage pulled by four white swans - before the carriage and princess sink back into the depths. The dreamy pond is surrounded by an extraordinary stand of beech trees that have been growing for more than 100 years and reach an impressive 40 meters in height. Their shafts measure a stately 15 to 20 meters - far more than the usual size - and the seeds bear the "special origin" quality label.
