Rest area at the Hertha Lake in Hohe Holz Teterow
In the middle of the "Hohe Holz" hiking area near Teterow, not far from the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast, lies the rest area at Lake Hertha - a quiet place to linger in the midst of impressive nature. A covered rest area invites you to have a picnic, while a bench on the lakeshore offers the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the woodland pond surrounded by water irises and woodruff.
Lake Hertha, steeped in legend, and ancient beech forestLake Hertha itself is shrouded in legend: The beautiful Princess Hertha is said to live at its bottom. On St. John's Eve, she drives around the lake three times in a golden carriage pulled by four white swans - before the carriage and princess sink back into the depths. The dreamy pond is surrounded by an extraordinary stand of beech trees that have been growing for more than 100 years and reach an impressive 40 meters in height. Their shafts measure a stately 15 to 20 meters - far more than the usual size - and the seeds bear the "special origin" quality label.
Tree nature trail and historic stone box grave in Hoher Holz
A small educational tree trail near the rest area invites you to get to know the local forest world better. If you venture deeper into the hiking area, you will come across a stone cist grave dating back to 3000 to 1800 BC - a silent testimony to the long history of settlement in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There is also a beautiful view over Teterow and the hills of the Teterow Basin from the upper hollow path.
