Regina & Ingo Chinow | RAKURITÄT Event ceramics from Saal
Animal RAKURITÄTEN: The original from Saal Rakuritäten - in this word we have combined raku ceramics, rarities and curiosities. "Rakuritäten - these are mostly animal figures with a lot of character, created by Rina Chinow, the caricaturist among the ceramists. The lovingly shaped figures with their irresistible looks are fired by Rina and her husband Ingo using an old Japanese firing technique. This gives them their unique "crackle": the glaze cracks and in the subsequent fire bath, carbon settles in the cracks, giving the surfaces of the lovable Rakuritäten a noble life of their own." These words were written by Maxi Schreiber, fire artist and freelancer at Rakuritäten. We look forward to getting to know you, you or you. Perhaps here in our farm store or in the workshop. You are also welcome to visit our entertaining channels on YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. The artist couple regularly go on barn tours through Germany and invite you to creative courses in the Saal workshop. The "Kieke-Eys" are legendary and unmistakable! Regina & Ingo Chinow from Saal

Rakuritäten from Saal - unique raku ceramics on the Baltic Sea coast

In the middle of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, not far from the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, Regina and Ingo Chinow create so-called raku ceramics in their workshop in Saal - a term that combines raku ceramics, rarities and curiosities in one word. The mostly animal figures are created under the hands of Rina Chinow, who is considered a caricaturist among ceramists, and are given their unmistakable appearance using an old Japanese firing technique.

Japanese firing technique meets North German craftsmanship

The special feature of the Rakuritäten is the so-called craquelure: during firing, the glaze cracks and carbon is deposited in the fine cracks in a subsequent fire bath. This gives each figurine a lively, elegant surface with its very own character. The Chinows' irresistible "Kieke-Eys" have long been legendary and are known far beyond the Baltic coast.
