Plau am See post office
The old Plau am See post office - Wilhelminian style on the Baltic Sea
The Plau am See post office is one of the most impressive historical monuments in inland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, not far from the Baltic Sea coast. The two-storey brick building in the historicizing Wilhelminian style was opened on 1 April 1887 as the Imperial Post Office and still dominates the townscape of Plau am See to this day.
Architectural features of the Imperial Post OfficeThe building impresses with its richly decorated cornice, the striking gable risalits at the corner of the building and the corner-emphasizing pinnacles. Segmental arches above the windows and door, a high plinth storey and a pitched roof give the building its representative character. The imperial coat of arms and a clock were originally located above the entrance. At the same time as the opening, a telegraph office was integrated into the building. In 1900, the building was extended by two axes to the right.
