Mecklenburg Organ Museum
Opening hours
Mecklenburg Organ Museum on the Baltic Sea - sound and history in a neo-Gothic church
The Mecklenburg Organ Museum is the largest organ museum in northern Germany and a special cultural destination on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Housed in a neo-Gothic monastery church, it brings together eight playable organs under one roof - instruments that were threatened with decay at their original location or had to make way for other organs. The museum thus preserves an important part of Mecklenburg's organ building history.
Playable organs and interactive model organ to try out
In addition to experiencing historical instruments, visitors can also get active themselves: A model organ provides vivid insights into how the instrument works and can be played by anyone. The museum also has an extensive specialist library on the history of organ building, which can be used by appointment.
Organ concerts and events in the monastery churchThe monastery church is a regular concert venue and is also used for wedding ceremonies. From May to October, the Organ Live format takes place on Thursdays at 12 noon - 20 minutes of organ music on five organs. From July to September, there is also an organ matinee on Sundays at 11.30 am. Anyone traveling to the Baltic Sea region between Rostock, Stralsund or Greifswald will find a cultural excursion destination away from the beach and coast here.
