The largest organ museum in northern Germany invites you to examine and listen to the most beautiful organs. The Mecklenburg Organ Museum is housed in the neo-Gothic monastery church and the former vicarage, now the organ house. The main purpose of the museum is to preserve endangered instruments from the Mecklenburg region. It is also dedicated to researching and presenting the history of organ building. There are eight playable organs in the monastery church. The organ house has not been accessible since 2020 due to renovation work until further notice. A model organ, which provides an insight into how the instrument works, can be played by visitors themselves. The museum primarily houses organs that were threatened with decay at their original location, were located in unused or structurally endangered churches or had to make way for other instruments. The museum has an extensive specialist library. It can be used by appointment. The monastery church is a regular concert venue and is also used for weddings. Events: May to October Thursdays 12 noon ORGAN LIVE - 20 minutes of organ music on five organs July to September Sundays 11.30 a.m. ORGAN MATINEE Information on prices and opening hours can be found here.

Mecklenburg Organ Museum on the Baltic Sea - sound and history in a neo-Gothic church

The Mecklenburg Organ Museum is the largest organ museum in northern Germany and a special cultural destination on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Housed in a neo-Gothic monastery church, it brings together eight playable organs under one roof - instruments that were threatened with decay at their original location or had to make way for other organs. The museum thus preserves an important part of Mecklenburg's organ building history.

Playable organs and interactive model organ to try out

In addition to experiencing historical instruments, visitors can also get active themselves: A model organ provides vivid insights into how the instrument works and can be played by anyone. The museum also has an extensive specialist library on the history of organ building, which can be used by appointment.

Organ concerts and events in the monastery church

The monastery church is a regular concert venue and is also used for wedding ceremonies. From May to October, the Organ Live format takes place on Thursdays at 12 noon - 20 minutes of organ music on five organs. From July to September, there is also an organ matinee on Sundays at 11.30 am. Anyone traveling to the Baltic Sea region between Rostock, Stralsund or Greifswald will find a cultural excursion destination away from the beach and coast here.
