Climate forest Sehlen
Climate Forest Sehlen - New forest in the heart of the island of Rügen
The Sehlen climate forest is the third climate forest on the island of Rügen and was officially opened with a planting event on October 20, 2018. Over the next three years, new forest stands of linden, wych elm and forest edge trees - tree species that are particularly well adapted to the conditions of climate change - were planted on an area of around one hectare. The reforestation area is centrally located on Rügen, on the outskirts of Sehlen, south of the district town of Bergen.
Climate forests in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - forest shares for the future
The Sehlen climate forest is part of a state-wide project: since 2007, a total of over 100 hectares of climate-adapted forest have been created at 19 locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - from the Baltic coast to the inland. These areas were financed by so-called forest shares, which were purchased by holidaymakers, residents and businesses. During planting campaigns, interested parties can get active together with forestry experts and learn more about forest development in the region.
