Climate Forest Neubrandenburg
Climate forest Neubrandenburg: 2,000 sessile oaks for the future
The Neubrandenburg climate forest in the Nettelkuhl district is a visible sign of active environmental protection in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On April 10, 2010, around 2,000 sessile oaks were planted here on an area of 0.3 hectares together with the Neubrandenburg City Forestry Office. The project was initiated by a company based in Neustrelitz, which purchased 300 forest shares and thus motivated residents of the region to actively participate.
Forest shares for climate-adapted forests in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The project in Neubrandenburg is part of a state-wide initiative: since 2007, over 100 hectares of new, climate-adapted forest have been created at 19 locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - from the Baltic coast near Stralsund and Rostock to the inland areas. This reforestation was financed by so-called forest shares, which can be purchased by holidaymakers, residents and businesses. At planting events, interested visitors can meet forestry experts and gain exciting insights into forest development in the region.
