Climate forest Koserow
Klimawald Koserow - new forest at the narrowest point of Usedom
The Koserow climate forest is located on the island of Usedom, near the village of the same name, not far from the narrowest part of the island between Zempin and Koserow. From 2011 to 2013, English oaks were planted here on almost 3.5 hectares - a project by the Neu Pudagla forestry office. The young trees have now grown so well that the protective fence has already been dismantled. One special resident is the beaver, which clearly feels at home in the Koserow climate forest - and has already left its mark on one or two of the trees.
Forest shares for climate-adapted forests in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Klimawald Koserow is part of a state-wide project: since 2007, over 100 hectares of new, climate-adapted forest have been created at 19 locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The reforestation was financed by so-called forest shares, which could be purchased by holidaymakers, residents and businesses. At planting events, interested parties meet forestry experts and learn interesting facts about the forest on the Baltic coast.
