Climate forest Haidhof
Climate forest Haidhof on the Baltic Sea - reforestation on Rügen
The Haidhof climate forest is located in the western part of the island of Rügen, between the villages of Gingst and Dreschvitz. Red oaks, sweet chestnuts and hazel trees grow here on an area of just under one hectare, supplemented by various woodland edge shrubs. The forest is part of a state-wide project in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which has been creating over 100 hectares of new, climate-adapted forest at 19 locations since 2007.
Planting campaigns and forest shares in the Haidhof climate forest
Since 2011, regular planting campaigns have been taking place in the fall, where holidaymakers and residents get active together with foresters. With children's games, campfires and wild sausages, there is room for discussions about the climate forests on Rügen and the future of the forest on the Baltic coast. The reforestation is financed by so-called forest shares, which can be purchased by holidaymakers, residents and businesses.
How to get to the Haidhof climate forest on RügenThe reforestation area can be reached via the L30 between Dreschvitz and Gingst.
