Climate forest Golchen
Climate forest Golchen - mixed forest for the future
In the small village of Golchen, around 30 km north of Neubrandenburg, a special forest has been growing since 2009: the Golchen climate forest. On an area of 1.6 hectares, young trees are growing here in a mixed forest that has been specifically adapted to climate change. The project was initiated by private individuals and companies who feel connected to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and want to actively do something for the region with their involvement.
Forest shares for climate forests throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Golchen climate forest is part of a state-wide project: since 2007, over 100 hectares of new forest have been planted at 19 locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - from the Baltic Sea coast near Rügen and Usedom to the interior of the state. These reforestations are financed by so-called forest shares, which holidaymakers, locals and companies can purchase. At planting events, interested parties can talk directly to forestry experts and gain exciting insights into the development of the region's forests.
Travel to the Golchen climate forest via the A 20
The best way to reach the Golchen climate forest is via the A 20 freeway, Anklam junction. From there, take the B 96 towards Altentreptow/Neubrandenburg, after about 3 km turn right into the village of Golchen. Follow the "Klimawald" sign to reach the meeting place with parking facilities - from there it is about 400 meters on foot to the reforestation area.
