Climate Forest Glowe - the first climate forest on Rügen on the Baltic Sea
The Glowe climate forest on the island of Rügen is one of the special nature projects along the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Created back in 2008, the mixed forest of Scots pine and English oak covers an area of 1.6 hectares. It was created as part of a state-wide initiative that has created a total of over 100 hectares of climate-adapted forest at 19 different locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 2007.

The reforestation of the climate forests in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was and is financed by so-called forest shares - purchased by vacationers, residents and companies. Anyone who wants to can actively participate in planting campaigns and talk directly to forestry experts. In this way, the Glowe climate forest combines nature conservation with a lively experience for visitors to the island of Rügen.
How to get to the Glowe climate forest on Rügen
The reforestation area is located near the village of Glowe in the north of Rügen and can be reached via the L30 state road. Coming from Bergen, drive in the direction of Breege and turn left at the end of Glowe - after about 800 meters, the area is on the right between two existing forest areas. Glowe is also well connected to regional trains from Stralsund and Rostock via Bergen auf Rügen railroad station.
