Climate forest Damerow
Climate forest Damerow - reforestation on the Baltic Sea on Usedom
The Damerow climate forest is located on Usedom, at the narrowest point of the island, not far from the well-known Koserow climate forest. Created by the Neu Pudagla forestry office, the two-hectare area was officially opened in October 2009 during the Usedom Game Weeks. The starting signal was given by a donation of 50 forest shares from the Achterkerke Foundation to local families. The English oaks planted at that time are now around five meters high and are already inviting visitors to take their first walk through the young forest.
Forest shares for new forests in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The project is an example of a state-wide initiative: since 2007, over 100 hectares of climate-adapted forest have been planted at 19 locations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - financed by forest shares from holidaymakers, residents and businesses. During planting campaigns, interested parties meet forestry experts and gain exciting insights into forest development along the Baltic coast.
How to get to the Damerow climate forest on Usedom
From Wolgast, the B111 in the direction of Swinemünde and Koserow leads directly to the destination. About 1.5 km after Zempin, turn right at Forsthaus Damerow, there is a parking lot behind the railroad tracks. From there, cross the B111 and follow the signs - the reforestation area is about 200 meters behind the adjacent forest. The nearest train station is Zempin on the Usedomer Bäderbahn (UBB) line.
