Stavenhagen Historical Market

The historic market square forms the heart of the Reuterstadt Stavenhagen and is a central meeting point for residents and visitors alike. It is closely linked to the life and work of the famous Low German poet Fritz Reuter, whose birthplace is located directly on the market square. Today, this building houses the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum, which commemorates the life and work of the writer and is also an important cultural attraction in the town. Over the years, the square has been redesigned several times to adapt it to modern requirements without losing its original charm. The extensive renovation in 1995, during which the traditional large stone paving and the Reuter monument were preserved, was particularly influential. This made it possible to preserve the historical reference and at the same time create a new quality of stay. As part of the 750th anniversary of the town in 2014, the market square was once again upgraded. Since then, a newly designed green area and seating have contributed to an inviting townscape. In addition, the square has been made barrier-free in recent years so that people with limited mobility can also use it without any problems. Today, the market square presents itself as the lively center of Stavenhagen - surrounded by buildings that shape the cityscape and lovingly restored facades. It is not only the venue for numerous cultural events and markets, but also a meeting place that impressively combines past and present.
