Stavenhagen Historical Market
Historic Stavenhagen market - the center of the Reuterstadt
The historic Stavenhagen market is the lively center of the Reuterstadt and a cultural attraction in the Baltic Sea region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The birthplace of the famous Low German poet Fritz Reuter, which now houses the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum, is located directly on the market square. The museum commemorates the life and work of the writer and makes the square an important literary memorial - known far beyond the region.
Fritz Reuter heritage and historic townscape on the market square
The market square looks back on a long history and continues to shape the townscape of Stavenhagen to this day. During a comprehensive renovation in 1995, the characteristic large stone paving and the Reuter monument were preserved. The square was upgraded again for the 750th anniversary of the town in 2014: Since then, new green areas and seating have created an inviting atmosphere. The entire area is also barrier-free. Surrounded by landmark buildings and restored façades, the market is now a venue for cultural events and markets - a place where past and present meet.
