Hafen Althagen in Ahrenshoop OT Althagen - history on the Saaler Bodden
The Althagen harbor in Ahrenshoop OT Althagen is located on the north-western shore of the Saaler Bodden, nestled in the unique landscape of Fischland-Darß-Zingst in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Around 1900, a fortified landing stage was built here for the local fishermen and for the ferry to Ribnitz-Damgarten. From this harbor, the fishermen from Ahrenshoop, Alt and Niehagen set out into the Bodden with their characteristic Zeesboats to fish in the traditional way.
From fishing harbor to popular water hiking resting place
For a long time, the harbor was also a central transport hub, as a fixed road connection to Niehagen was not built until 1929. Today, the harbor is used exclusively for tourist purposes. Following extensive repairs to the bank reinforcements and the jetty, it has become very popular as a resting place for water hikers. The harbor is home to passenger ships, Zeesen and fishing boats as well as a fish restaurant with its own smokehouse. There are a limited number of guest berths; showers, toilets, water and electricity are available.
