Bismarck Stone
Bismarckstein on the Baltic Sea - a mighty boulder in Teterow
The Bismarckstein - an imposing boulder that was originally found in the Pampow field - is located near the center of Teterow, not far from the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast. The listed granite gneiss is four meters long, 2.80 meters wide and has a volume of nine cubic meters. The front side was polished by the glacier and shows a relief of the former Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, while parts of the back side have been blasted off at the top.
Glacial history - traces of the ice in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Bismarckstein does not belong to the so-called "Leitgeschieben", which can be clearly assigned to a specific region of origin. Nevertheless, the coarse-grained granite gneiss tells an impressive story of the powerful forces of the Ice Age that shaped the entire coastal region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - from Rügen and Usedom to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Its size and the visible glacial traces alone make this boulder a worthwhile excursion destination in the region.
Bismarckstein Teterow - a natural monument in the heart of Mecklenburg
Teterow is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, easily accessible from Rostock, Güstrow and Malchin. The Bismarckstein is located at the intersection of Malchiner Straße and Bahnhofstraße and can be easily reached on foot from the town center. It is a silent witness to the history of the earth and an unusual monument that combines natural history and regional history in a special way.
