Rechlin North Village Church

Rechlin North Village Church
"The Rechlin church was built between 1816 and 1832 in the Classical style, with the altar facing west. The organ loft on the east side no longer exists. It was consecrated as a garrison church in 1935."

Village Church Rechlin North - Classicism near the Baltic Sea

The village church of Rechlin Nord is one of the most architecturally remarkable sacred buildings in the Baltic Sea region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Built between 1816 and 1832, it is a vivid example of classicism - an architectural style that also left clear traces in other parts of northern Germany at that time, such as Stralsund, Greifswald and Rostock.

Special features of the Rechlin church

Unusual for a Protestant village church is the orientation of the altar to the west - a deviation from the traditional east-west orientation. The organ loft, originally located on the east side, no longer exists today. The church opened another historical chapter in 1935 when it was consecrated as a garrison church and is therefore closely linked to the military history of Rechlin.

Rechlin North as an excursion destination in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Rechlin is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, not far from the Baltic Sea coast with its well-known destinations such as Fischland-Darß-Zingst, Rügen and Usedom. Anyone exploring the region can easily incorporate the church into an excursion away from the main tourist routes and experience Mecklenburg's rural church architecture up close.
