Rechlin North Village Church
Village Church Rechlin North - Classicism near the Baltic Sea
The village church of Rechlin Nord is one of the most architecturally remarkable sacred buildings in the Baltic Sea region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Built between 1816 and 1832, it is a vivid example of classicism - an architectural style that also left clear traces in other parts of northern Germany at that time, such as Stralsund, Greifswald and Rostock.
Special features of the Rechlin church
Unusual for a Protestant village church is the orientation of the altar to the west - a deviation from the traditional east-west orientation. The organ loft, originally located on the east side, no longer exists today. The church opened another historical chapter in 1935 when it was consecrated as a garrison church and is therefore closely linked to the military history of Rechlin.
