The Saale Apostle Stones
The Saal Apostle Stones on the Baltic Sea - a Stone Age mystery in the forest
Deep in the Saal Forest, south-east of Kückenshagen on the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast, lies one of the most mysterious places in the region: the Saal Apostle Stones. A circle of 13 unevenly sized stones, some of which have already fallen over and are arranged slightly irregularly, form a stone circle that dates back to the Middle and Early Stone Age. Not far away is the site of a temple - whether there is a connection remains part of the mystery.
Magical atmosphere between beech leaves and birdsong
In spring, cowslips, buttercups and ash trees point the way to this special place. In autumn, the colorful beech leaves of the forests near Fischland-Darß-Zingst glow in rich red and gold. Gifts from visitors on the tree table, an occasional breeze, the chirping of birds - the Apostelsteine radiate a tranquillity that attracts locals and holidaymakers alike time and time again.
Guided tours and exploring the Apostelsteine near Saal on your own
From May to September, the Southern Bodden Coast Tourist Office offers regular guided tours to the Apostle Stones. For those who prefer to set off on their own: the "Kolonie" road in Saal leads to the edge of the forest. From there, turn left into the forest, after around 420 meters a wooden sign "Apostelsteine" points the way further over a small bridge and a short footbridge to the stone circle.
