Ladies' square at Malchow Monastery
Ladies' Square at Malchow Monastery - a green centerpiece on the Baltic Sea
The Ladies' Square at Malchow Monastery, together with the former refectory - now used as an art museum - forms the historic center of the monastery grounds. In the middle of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, not far from the Baltic Sea coast, this special place invites you to linger. At the center of the square is a 300-year-old lime tree, which gives the ensemble its unmistakable character.
Historic garden design and preserved tree treasuresThe originally baroque-style grounds were redesigned around 1900: New paths and flowerbeds were created, ornamental trees were planted and gas lanterns were installed. After 1945, a large part of the garden was lost. In addition to the old lime tree, a row of Chinese lilacs and a magnolia have been preserved - silent witnesses to the monastery's eventful history.
Coffee, culture and events on the monastery groundsThe Damenplatz is particularly enjoyable in summer: If you like, you can enjoy coffee and cake from the monastery café right on the square and immerse yourself in the history of the monastery. Occasionally, events are also held on the grounds, including the popular Viking Festival, which gives the place a lively flair. A worthwhile stop on a round trip through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - perhaps combined with excursions to Rostock, Güstrow or the Mecklenburg Lake District.
