The BUGA 2009 in Schwerin and a climate forest for our environment - what could be more natural than combining the major event of a Federal Horticultural Show with the reforestation of a new forest area! One day after the start of the BUGA in Schwerin, this sixth 1.7-hectare climate forest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was opened with a planting event in Neuhof on April 24, 2009. As a "Selected Landmark" in the "Land of Ideas" competition, the Neuhof Climate Forest enhanced the experience value of the BUGA and supported its supra-regional appeal as a sustainable event with its very specific contribution to reducing CO2 emissions from vacation and business trips. How to find the Klimawald Neuhof The first reforestation area is located 25 km southeast of the state capital Schwerin and 2.5 km northeast of the small town of Neustadt-Glewe as the crow flies. You can reach the reforestation area via the A24, exit Neustadt-Glewe, turn onto the B191 in the direction of Spornitz, follow the L81 behind the HOYER petrol station (approx. 1 km), take the KRIM/Neuhof junction, then continue for approx. 1 km, or coming from Neustadt-Glewe, drive through Neuhof on the main road and turn right at the end of the town. From here it is about 1 km. The BUGA-Klimawald Neuhof was created in direct connection with the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show in Schwerin. Just one day after the start of the BUGA, on April 24, 2009, the sixth climate forest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was opened in Neuhof with a joint planting campaign. Since 2007, more than 100 hectares of new, climate-adapted forest have been planted at 19 locations throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - from the Baltic Sea coast to Rügen and Usedom and inland. The reforestation was financed by so-called forest shares, which holidaymakers, residents and businesses were able to purchase. At planting events, visitors can talk to forestry experts and gain exciting insights into the region's forest development.

How to get to the Neuhof climate forest near Neustadt-Glewe

The reforestation area is located around 25 kilometers southeast of Schwerin and 2.5 kilometers northeast of Neustadt-Glewe. The Klimawald Neuhof can be reached by car via the A24, exit Neustadt-Glewe, continue on the B191 towards Spornitz, then follow the L81 to the Krim/Neuhof junction. Alternatively, the forest can be reached from Neustadt-Glewe by driving through Neuhof on the main road and turning right at the end of the village. The nearest train station is in Neustadt-Glewe.
