Putbus train station
Putbus railroad station - where regular and narrow-gauge railroads meet on the Baltic Sea
Putbus station is a historically significant railroad junction on the island of Rügen on the German Baltic Sea coast. This is where the Bergen auf Rügen-Lauterbach Mole railroad line and the 750 mm gauge narrow-gauge railroad, which still serves the Putbus-Göhren section today, intersect. The station was opened on August 15, 1889, together with the Bergen-Putbus line.
Listed ensemble and exhibition on the Rügen Little Railway
The reception building of the standard-gauge line and the narrow-gauge station with the dispatching building, old service building, engine shed and railcar shed are listed buildings. An exhibition on the narrow-gauge site brings the eventful history of the Rügen narrow-gauge railroads to life. A three-rail track built in the 1990s has since made it possible for both standard-gauge and narrow-gauge trains to run between Putbus and Lauterbach Mole.
How to get to Putbus station on Rügen
Putbus can be reached by train via Bergen auf Rügen, which in turn is connected to the German rail network via Stralsund and the Rügen dam. By car, you can reach the island via the A20 to Stralsund and from there via the Rügendamm. From Stralsund, it is around 40 kilometers to Putbus.
