Viewpoint Reiherberg
Reiherberg viewpoint - panoramic view over the Feldberg lake district
The Reiherberg viewpoint in the Feldberg lake district is one of the most beautiful vantage points in inland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. At 143 meters high and around 60 meters above the level of the Haussee lake, it offers an impressive panorama of the main town of Feldberg, the two picturesque islands in the Haussee lake and the wooded lake landscape all around. While coastal regions such as Rügen, Usedom and Fischland-Darß-Zingst are primarily known for their sea and beaches, the hinterland of the federal state surprises with such scenic highlights.
Ice-age escarpment with far-reaching views
Strictly speaking, the Reiherberg is not a classic mountain, but a glacial escarpment - formed when the dead ice of the last ice age melted. This glacial formation is typical of the entire landscape around Feldberg and makes the region particularly interesting geologically. The viewpoint is particularly atmospheric in the early morning, when the morning mist clears over the Haussee lake, or on New Year's Eve, when the Feldberg fireworks can be seen from up here.
Hiking, cycling and carriage rides on the Reiherberg
The Reiherberg is easily accessible on foot via the Reinhard-Barby-Höhenweg and is located north of the center of Feldberg. In addition to hikers, cyclists also regularly visit the viewpoint. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can take a carriage ride through the surrounding beech forest - the Reiherberg is an integral part of the route.
