Dütschower Brücke viewpoint: View over the Lewitz fish ponds
The viewing point at the Dütschow Bridge in Dütschow is located in the middle of the Lewitz, one of the largest contiguous lowland landscapes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. From a lookout tower right next to the bridge, you can enjoy a wide view over the man-made Lewitz fish ponds and the Müritz-Elde waterway. The ponds were created in the 19th century and today cover an area of around 900 hectares of water at a depth of only around 1.20 meters - ideal for carp farming, which is still practised here today.
Lake eagles, peregrine falcons and gray herons - birdwatching in the LewitzThe Lewitz fishponds are an important bird sanctuary in inland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. White-tailed eagles, peregrine falcons, gray herons and great white egrets can be observed from the observation tower at the Dütschow Bridge. A visit is particularly worthwhile during the bird migration, when numerous migratory birds rest on the ponds and transform the landscape into an extraordinary natural spectacle. However, the site also offers interesting nature observations at any time of year outside of migration times.
Lewitz and Baltic Sea coast - pure nature in Mecklenburg-VorpommernThe Lewitz is located in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and can be easily combined with a trip to the Baltic Sea coast - for example to Wismar, Rostock or Fischland-Darß-Zingst. If you want to experience the nature of the state away from the beach and sea, you will find a quiet, species-rich landscape around Dütschow, which stands in stark contrast to the idyllic coastline and therefore has its own charm.
