Country house Apmann
Fashion designer Olivia Althaus-Apmann has lovingly transformed an old farmhouse in the idyllic village of Thandorf into a real gem.
Olivia Althaus-Apmann has been producing and presenting her collections in the "Landhaus Apmann" in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve since 2004: individual pieces made of fine leather in nappa and velour, high-quality wool and cashmere fabrics, Australian, Spanish and New Zealand lambskins, combined with modern high-tech materials. "The beauty of the Mecklenburg landscape is combined with the materials we use to create a special fashion and home collection," says Olivia Althaus-Apmann, explaining her overall concept: "Completely individual and geared entirely to the customer's wishes." Jackets, coats and costumes are created after a detailed type consultation: fashion has to suit the person! New collections are designed and patterns created in the spacious studio in the former hayloft. Olivia Althaus-Apmann invites guests to seasonal events and presentations here. Guests experience the interplay of creativity and craftsmanship. The showroom is designed with selected accessories from small partner manufacturers and large-format paintings: a total work of art of fashion, living and floral design. "The high-quality producers from our region should exchange ideas and work together more," says Olivia Althaus-Apmann. "A region is only as strong as its best producers." That's why the Lübeck native also opens up her country house and 7000m² garden for art exhibitions. There is no separation between private life and work in her family business: "My job is my life!" One of Olivia Althaus-Apmann's specialties is fur recycling: "Furs are extremely durable. Customers come to me who have a valuable heirloom - we rework it with new finishing techniques and contemporary designs." A change in image is taking place today: Furs are no longer a status symbol, but a high-quality natural product that sets a sustainable example in a throwaway society. Opening hours: Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, at weekends by appointment
Landhaus Apmann in Thandorf - a total work of art combining fashion and craftsmanship
In the small village of Thandorf, in the middle of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, fashion designer Olivia Althaus-Apmann has transformed an old farmhouse into an extraordinary studio. Since 2004, she has been producing and presenting individual collections in Landhaus Apmann made from fine leather in nappa and velour, high-quality wool and cashmere fabrics as well as Australian, Spanish and New Zealand lambskins - complemented by modern high-tech materials.
Individual fashion from the studio in the former hayloft
New collections and styles are created in the spacious studio in the former hayloft of the country house. Jackets, coats and costumes are made after a detailed type consultation, because Olivia Althaus-Apmann believes that fashion must suit the individual. The showroom combines fashion, home decor and floral design to create a harmonious overall picture - designed with accessories from small partner manufacturers and large-format paintings. Regular seasonal events and presentations invite guests to experience the interplay of creativity and craftsmanship up close.
Sustainable fur recycling as a specialty
Fur recycling is one of the Landhaus's unique selling points. Valuable heirlooms are carefully reworked using new finishing techniques and contemporary design - a sustainable approach that re-evaluates fur as a high-quality natural product. This concept is exemplary of Olivia Althaus-Apmann's overall understanding: regional quality, careful craftsmanship and a conscious approach to materials.
Art, garden and regional networking in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve
The country house and the approximately 7,000 m² garden are regularly open for art exhibitions and invite regional producers and guests to come together. Olivia Althaus-Apmann, a native of Lübeck, is actively involved in networking high-quality producers in the region. The Mecklenburg landscape around the Schaalsee lake - not far from the Baltic Sea coast with places like Wismar or Fischland-Darß-Zingst - forms the natural setting for a project in which private and professional life consciously intertwine.
