The bascule bridge Am Querkanal, also known as the Querkanalbrücke, connects the northern and southern areas of the harbor island. The Querkanalbrücke is one of five bridges over which the harbor island can be reached and is a technical monument. It was put into operation in 1932 and is open daily during the season from April, as only small motorboats, canoes or rowing boats can pass through on the water side when it is not open. The Querkanalbrücke in Stralsund, also known as the bascule bridge Am Querkanal, is a remarkable technical monument in the heart of the Hanseatic city.
