Brunnenaue Stralsund

Knieperdamm 11

18439 Stralsund

The Brunnenaue in Stralsund is a small idyllic park with a large fountain. First mentioned in 1630 as a healing spring, the city park of the Biedermeier period is a simple park with play and sports areas. Around 1848, merchant Ernst H. F. Billich expanded it into a park with arbors, new paths and trees. Remains of the original park still exist despite the modernization in the style of the 1970s. Rare tree and shrub species, such as the bald cypress, were planted here and still grow today. The tranquil atmosphere and idyllic landscape make the Brunnenaue a popular recreational area for locals and tourists alike. The fountain in particular, with its large fountain, is a popular meeting place in summer. The many seats surrounding the fountain and numerous park benches along the paths through the park invite you to linger. The fountain bubbles after the chestnut blossom around Easter in spring, summer and fall and then goes into its winter break in October.

Fountain meadow Stralsund - a city park with a long history

The Brunnenaue Stralsund is a small, idyllic park in the heart of the Hanseatic city on the Baltic coast of Western Pomerania. The site was first mentioned as a healing spring as early as 1630. During the Biedermeier period, it developed into a city park, which was expanded around 1848 by the merchant Ernst H. F. Billich with arbors, new paths and trees to create the park we know today.

Spring fountain and rare tree species in the park

Despite modernization in the style of the 1970s, remnants of the original park still remain. Particularly worth seeing are rare tree and shrub species such as the bald cypress, which were planted here and still grow today. The centerpiece of the park is the large fountain with its imposing fountain, which goes into operation around Easter after the chestnut blossom and bubbles away into the autumn before going into its winter break in October.

Popular meeting place for locals and visitors to the Baltic Sea region

Numerous seating areas around the fountain and park benches along the paths make the Brunnenaue a popular place to linger - for locals as well as tourists who use Stralsund as a starting point for excursions to Rügen, Fischland-Darß-Zingst or Greifswald. Play and sports areas also make the park attractive for families.
