In Rusch, a small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Keramik Mecklenburgervogel workshop offers handcrafted stoneware in two different styles. Those interested in traditional pottery will find both salt-glazed one-of-a-kind pieces and colorful tableware sets—all crafted with great artisanal skill.

Salt-glazed stoneware from a wood-fired open kiln

Particularly distinctive is the salt-glazed stoneware, which is fired in a wood-fired open kiln at 1320 °C. The pieces are incised, stamped, engobed, and painted. Salt and ash deposits create a distinctive, natural surface—each piece is one-of-a-kind.

Colorful stoneware & one-of-a-kind pieces with gold accents in the Blue House

The selection is complemented by colorful stoneware tableware, which is painted with engobes and fired at 1140 °C in an electric kiln. The so-called “Blue House” also features one-of-a-kind pieces with gold accents as well as colorfully painted stoneware tableware. These ceramics make for special souvenirs from the Baltic Sea region—completely free of mass-produced items. Visits outside regular hours are possible by prior arrangement.
