Im Kloster 1-2

18311 Ribnitz-Damgarten

Lady of the world - but also a nun - permanent exhibition on the history of the monastery and convent in Ribnitz Monastery. In 1323, Prince Henry the Lion founded a monastery for the Order of St. Clare, which particularly venerated its founder and rule-giver, St. Clare of Assisi (1193 - 1253). Richly endowed with land, the monastery quickly developed into an important convent. Today, the monastery complex with its Gothic church is a small treasure trove. A large part of the medieval furnishings have been preserved to this day. The exhibition "Lady of the world, but also a nun" on the history of the convent and monastery leads through the convent church and shows the many treasures of the convent. Visitors can trace the life of the Poor Clares and discover interesting facts about Mecklenburg's regional and aristocratic history. There are only a few places left in Mecklenburg that convey so much historical aura to their visitors. The monastery is also home to the German Amber Museum. The exhibitions are linked and can be experienced together.

Ribnitz Monastery - a medieval gem in Ribnitz-Damgarten

The Ribnitz Monastery in Ribnitz-Damgarten is one of the most impressive historical sites in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Prince Henry the Lion donated the complex in 1323 for the Order of Poor Clares, who particularly revered their founder, St. Clare of Assisi. Endowed with rich property, the monastery quickly developed into an important convent in the region.

Permanent exhibition "Lady of the world, but also a nun" - the history of the convent and monastery

The exhibition "Lady of the world, but also a nun" guides visitors through the Gothic monastery church and brings the world of the Poor Clares to life. A large part of the medieval furnishings have been preserved to this day, making the monastery a small treasure trove. Anyone interested in Mecklenburg's regional and aristocratic history will find a remarkable amount of historical substance here - few places in Mecklenburg convey a comparable aura.

Ribnitz Monastery and German Amber Museum - two exhibitions under one roof

The monastery is also home to the German Amber Museum. Both exhibitions are connected and can be explored together. This makes a visit particularly worthwhile - especially for travelers who are on their way along the Baltic Sea coast and stop off on their way between Rostock, Stralsund or Fischland-Darß-Zingst.

Museum bakery Müller - Klockenhagen

📍 Ribnitz-Damgarten

Tradition that you can taste! An absolute must when visiting the Klockenhagen open-air museum. Real craftsmanship is still practiced in the historic bakery: here the bread comes fresh from the old German stone oven. The aroma of oven-warm stone-baked bread and traditional sheet cakes wafts through the entire village ensemble. Highlight: from May to October, various types of Klockenhäger bread are baked in the vaulted oven. The bakery is open seasonally (like the open-air museum) from Tuesday to Sunday. Particularly practical: you can also reach it directly from the outside on the corner of Stützpunkt 3a, independently of the museum visit. April, May, June, September, October: 08:00 to 16:00 July and August: 08:00 to 17:00.
