Rheinsberg Castle - Prussian history on Lake Grienerick
Located almost 100 kilometers from Berlin, Rheinsberg Castle in northern Brandenburg is picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Grienericksee. Originally built in the 16th century, the moated castle initially belonged to Crown Prince Frederick, who later became King Frederick II, before he left it to his brother Prince Henry after his accession to the throne. Both personalities shaped the castle into a cultural center with a charisma that can still be felt today.
Music, theater and art at the Rheinsberg Court of MusesNotorious architects such as Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff and Carl Gotthard Langhans as well as artists such as Antoine Pesne worked at Rheinsberg Castle and left a lasting mark. Music and theater attracted numerous artists to the Musenhof and filled it with a lively cultural life. Theodor Fontane and Kurt Tucholsky also paid tribute to the special magic of this place in their works.
