"Blocksberg" Megalithic Dolmen – Megalithic Tomb near Posewald in Puttbus

The megalithic tomb near Posewald, known as “Blocksberg,” is located directly on the road between Lonvitz and Zirkow, north of the village of Posewald in the Puttbus area on the island of Rügen. The tomb is a so-called large dolmen with a vestibule and is one of the oldest surviving examples of human culture in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Original structure and current condition of the large dolmen

Originally, the megalithic tomb had three capstones. Today, one capstone remains in nearly its original position—though it has sunk slightly into the burial chamber. The other two capstones lie in the immediate vicinity: one at the edge of the mound, the second still partially buried in the ground. The nearly circular mound is still surrounded by several encircling stones of the so-called “giant’s bed,” though its exact original shape can no longer be reconstructed.
