The birthplace of Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke presents an interesting collection of the Parchim man's military, scientific and literary achievements.

Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke was a member of the Mecklenburg aristocracy and, in his role as Chief of the General Staff, played a key role in the victories in the three wars of unification (German-Danish War 1864, German War 1866, German-French War 1870/71). Helmuth von Moltke's birthplace is located at Lange Straße 28 in Parchim. On May 26, 1994, the Moltke Memorial was opened in this house. It was set up by the Moltke Foundation Berlin in cooperation with the Parchim Museum. Visitors are given an insight into the life and work of this personality, who was born in Parchim on October 26, 1800 and died in Berlin on April 24, 1891. Moltke's relationship to his native town and his military, scientific and literary achievements are presented in display cases and on panels. As Chief of the Prussian General Staff, Moltke played a key role in the victories of the three German unification wars between 1864 and 1871. He was a member of the Mecklenburg aristocracy and thus a child of the region, which is still known for its rich history today with cities such as Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund.
