Hauptstraße 36

23974 Neuburg

Parish of Neuburg The village church of Neuburg, which is part of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Neuburg in the district of Nordwestmecklenburg, is a brick building. It was first mentioned in a document in 1219. The architectural style, which reflects the transition from Romanesque to Gothic, indicates that the building was constructed at the beginning of the 13th century. Construction of the square tower was completed in 1361. The baroque altar and pulpit date from the beginning of the 18th century. Extensive restoration work was carried out in the 1970s and 1980s. The tower was re-roofed in 1992. The church is open from May to September from around 10 am to 4 pm. The key is otherwise available from the bakery next door or in the vicarage.

Neuburg village church - Romanesque and Gothic in north-west Mecklenburg

The Neuburg church is one of the oldest surviving religious buildings in Neuburg and the Northwest Mecklenburg region. It was first mentioned in a document in 1219. The brick building reflects the architectural transition from Romanesque to Gothic and was therefore built during a significant construction period for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - a period in which many churches along the Baltic coast, such as in Wismar or Stralsund, also originated.

Tower, altar and pulpit - construction phases through the centuries

The striking square tower of the village church was completed in 1361. The baroque altar and pulpit date from the early 18th century and bear witness to the building's eventful history. The church was extensively restored in the 1970s and 1980s and the tower was re-roofed in 1992. If you would like to visit the interior outside of the summer season, you can get the key from the neighboring bakery or in the rectory.
