Alte Schule Krakow am See - history and culture under one roof
The Old School in Krakow am See is a remarkable cultural center in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The building, which dates back to 1869, was extensively renovated in 1998 and now houses a municipal library, a local history room and the only book printing museum of its kind in the region on two floors. Anyone exploring the lake landscape around Krakow am See will find a lively encounter with local history and craft culture here.
Book Printing Museum Krakow am See - living craftsmanship from the early 20th century
The heart of the old school is the letterpress printing museum with an adjoining workshop on the first floor. Under the direction of printer and museum director Hans-Hilmar Koch, the technique of letterpress printing is not only exhibited, but actively practiced - printed matter is still produced here today using the historical process. Much of the original printing technology comes from the former Bontemps printing works in Krakow. This museum is the only one of its kind in the whole of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, making it a unique cultural feature that sets it apart from well-known excursion destinations such as Rostock, Wismar or Stralsund.
City library and local history room in the old school
In addition to the museum, the town library invites you to linger with a wide range of books, music, audio books, DVDs, children's games and an internet corner. The Heimatstube, on the other hand, shows what life and living was like in this region in grandmother's time - a quiet but impressive look at the everyday history of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern lake district.
